Cinemabuhay

Cinemabuhay was organized with the guidance and support of a long-time supporter of the Philippine film industry, Mr. Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman and CEO of the PLDT Corp.

Through a grant from the PLDT Corporation, Cinemabuhay will share the vision of Mr. Pangilinan to encourage young and talented film students and filmmakers to make their mark in the industry and showcase their work both here and abroad.

The Cinemabuhay screening process is an institutionalized effort to discover futurist writers, producers, and directors among the youth and give them the opportunity to showcase their talents using Digital, Video and High Definition formats. The PLDT Corporation through the Cinemabuhay vehicle, will play a pivotal role in empowering the youth sector to make vital contributions to Philippine Arts and Culture and uplift the stature of the Filipino film industry.

Cinemabuhay goes beyond the endeavor to expand the boundaries of film, leave the audience in awe, create opportunities, and create a new venue for the young, avante garde and the new generation of Filipino filmmakers. We advocate to encourage and nurture brilliant students and the vigorous youth sector to become successful independent and mainstream scriptwriters; directors; production designers; line producers; lighting experts; audio engineers; and, other related creative and technical fields.

Cinemabuhay began operating as an organization from the APM Integrated Media Offices in QC in August 2005. Albert Martinez with Elias Fernandez put together and formed a core working group of creatives and production people to form a SCREENING and ADVISORY COMMITTEE to help in screening 41 scripts into a FIRST CALL of 10 who were invited to make their pitch. From the FIRST CALL list of 10, the choice was narrowed to one finalist: Numbalikdiwa, by Bobby Bonifacio.
